LOFT ONE DESIGN

Loft One Design is an evolution of items originally developed and produced for grand-prix race yachts under the Loft Customs banner.

BJ founded Loft Customs in 2015 to supply custom covers and sail bags to Maxi 72s, TP52s and other high performance racing teams. Since then Loft Customs has grown to offer services to Americas Cup teams, superyachts, performance multihulls and classic yachts as well as it’s grand-prix clients. We have created covers for some of the most recognisable sailing yachts on the planet whilst earning a reputation for our unique aesthetics and attention to detail.

Loft One Design has been created to bring our grand-prix design and innovation to a wider market, offering the exact same products that help world championship winning race teams. By optimising the designs of our most commonly requested products we have created a range of covers, bags and accessories that continue the development commonly associated with spars and sails into the cockpit to push the concept of marginal gains to racing fleets across the globe.

The two companies work alongside each other in our production facility in Palma de Mallorca. Angus and BJ oversee the operations for both projects and, along with feedback from our pro-team, are responsible for the ongoing development of our product line.

MEET THE TEAM

BRENDAN ‘BJ’ SIMONS

BJ grew up New Zealand and has been a sailmaker since the age of 13 – spending time at Lidgard Sails and then many years with North Sails around the world. He has worked on numerous professional race teams including Ran (TP52 and Maxi 72 programmes), Bella Mente Maxi 72 and 3 Americas Cup cycles with Alinghi including their two wins in 2003 and 2007.

BJ made the switch from sails to covers in 2015 when he decided to settle here in Palma and establish Loft Customs but has kept his hand in the game with regular sailmaking stints for the Bella Mente Maxi 72 team for Season 3 of Sail GP he is working on behalf of Doyle Sails as the fleet sailmaker.

ANGUS ROBERTS

Having grown up on the East Coast of the UK Angus sailed competitively from a young age and has competed in international dinghy, multihull and offshore regattas and worked and raced on a variety of performance yachts including:

Gunboat 66, Swan 82 and 601, Irens 78 Catamaran, IMOCA 60, Cookson 50 and Club Swan 50.

Angus joined BJ at Loft Customs in 2018 having spent the previous years managing another local covers and sail loft. For the past few seasons Angus has been racing in the highly competitive Club Swan 50 fleet, testing and developing One Design items within this fleet.
